Robinhood outperformed Wall Street expectations after reporting $100 million in second-quarter crypto transaction revenue, beating the $86.6 million consensus estimate despite a sharp 38% year-over-year decline.
The earnings highlight a changing business model where strong growth in prediction markets, equities, and subscriptions is helping offset weaker cryptocurrency trading.
Robinhood Beats Crypto Revenue Estimates as Diversification Pays Off
Robinhood surprised investors after reporting $100 million in cryptocurrency transaction revenue for the second quarter of 2026, comfortably exceeding analyst expectations of $86.6 million.
While the result marked a 38% decline from a year earlier, it demonstrated that crypto trading held up better than analysts anticipated during a quarter characterized by softer digital asset prices and lower retail trading activity.
The crypto business remained only one part of a much stronger earnings report. Robinhood posted record quarterly revenue of $1.31 billion, up 32% year-over-year, alongside net income of $573 million and diluted earnings per share of $0.62, significantly above market expectations.
The results suggest Robinhood is becoming less dependent on crypto market cycles as newer business segments continue gaining traction.
Prediction Markets and Trading Drive Record Quarter
Robinhood generated $776 million in transaction-based revenue, up 44% year-over-year, led by strength across several products outside cryptocurrency.
Options trading generated $342 million, while equities contributed $129 million, representing a 95% annual increase. Perhaps the biggest standout was prediction markets, where event contracts produced $156 million, increasing more than tenfold from the same period last year.
Meanwhile, net interest revenue climbed to $389 million, while subscription and other revenue reached $143 million, supported by Robinhood Gold memberships and the company’s newly launched Trump Accounts.
The diversified performance helped offset continued weakness in digital asset trading, reinforcing management’s strategy of expanding beyond its original brokerage business.
Crypto Trading Softens but Expansion Continues
Robinhood reported $40 billion in crypto notional trading volume during the quarter.
The company’s retail app accounted for $18 billion, down 35% year-over-year, while recently acquired crypto exchange Bitstamp contributed another $22 billion in trading volume.
Despite declining crypto revenue, Robinhood continued investing aggressively in digital assets.
During the quarter, the company launched the public mainnet for Robinhood Chain, its Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain focused on tokenized real-world assets and institutional finance. It also expanded stock token availability to more than 120 countries through Robinhood Wallet, introduced Robinhood Earn, its first decentralized lending product, and advanced international crypto expansion plans in the UK, Singapore, and the European Union.
These initiatives indicate the company is positioning itself for the next phase of crypto adoption rather than relying solely on transaction fees.
Strong Customer Growth Supports Long-Term Strategy
Robinhood also reported encouraging platform-wide metrics.
Funded customers increased to 28.4 million, while total platform assets reached a record $369 billion, up 32% year-over-year. Robinhood Gold subscribers climbed 39% to 4.8 million, reflecting growing adoption of the company’s subscription ecosystem.
The company also recorded approximately $22 billion in quarterly net deposits, highlighting continued customer engagement despite volatile financial markets.
Management noted that Robinhood now operates 13 business lines generating at least $100 million in annualized revenue, underscoring its successful diversification strategy.
What’s Next?
Investors will now focus on whether Robinhood’s crypto segment can return to growth as digital asset markets recover. The rollout of Robinhood Chain, expansion into international crypto markets, and deeper integration of Bitstamp could strengthen future crypto revenue streams. At the same time, continued momentum in prediction markets, subscriptions, and tokenized asset offerings will likely remain key drivers as Robinhood evolves into a broader financial platform.
