The club beat Sydney FC on penalties, but the real story for crypto investors is the state of their fan token on the Chiliz blockchain
Tottenham Hotspur picked up their third pre-season victory on July 29, beating Sydney FC 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. Mathys Tel opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a free-kick. Takahiro Sekine equalized for Sydney in the 55th minute, sending the match to a shootout.
The $SPURS token: a case study in fan token gravity
Tottenham’s $SPURS fan token, launched on the Chiliz blockchain through the Socios.com platform, currently trades in a range of $0.095 to $0.14. Its all-time high sits above $8. That’s a decline of roughly 98% from peak to current levels.
The token has a circulating supply of approximately 12.7 million out of a total 40 million. Holders get access to polls, rewards, and exclusive fan experiences.
Kraken became Tottenham’s first Official Crypto and Web3 Partner in July 2024. The deal is a multi-year sleeve sponsorship, meaning the Kraken logo appears on players’ jersey sleeves during matches.
What pre-season results mean for fan token prices
Fan tokens on the Chiliz blockchain have seen upticks in trading volume around significant sporting events, like Champions League qualifications, major transfers, or strong runs of form during the regular season. At $0.095 to $0.14, the $SPURS token is priced significantly below its all-time high of above $8. The Chiliz blockchain hosts tokens for dozens of major sports clubs, from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain, and nearly all of them trade far below their launch-era highs.
